What if the world ends in next 24 hours? 

           

         The blue sky has become grey with black, gaseous clouds. Rough winds had started moving violently along the mountainous ranges, causing landslides and forest fires. The global water level has risen with the melting of icebergs and the time immemorial dormant volcanoes of Indonesia and other islands have started erupting lava. Some parts of the world are witnessing earthquake, terror of tsunami, floods, tornado, and avalanches.

            Panic, fear, terror, insecurity, eagerness to save life, desire to live long, enthusiasm to escape, resided everywhere amidst all the natural chaos. Nobody seemed to make peace with nature. There was a rush to save all the financial resources for the future generation, without the realization that the world will end in just 24 hours. BBC flashed the news that most people don’t want to see or hear. Yes, early in the morning it stated that, “The world will end today.”

            Reports from NASA, ISRO and other astronomical agencies stated with proofs of the happenings around the globe. To worsen the situation more, NASA’s telescope has spotted a meteorite approaching the once blue planet. Every danger event is driving the people insane and crazy. The roads are filled with people running, some standing and protesting before the houses of the Government officials, some running to banks to retrieve their valuables, some visiting their relatives (both alive and dead), some even rushed to the bar for a drink or two.

            Amidst all the chaos, there is Newt, one of a kind, sitting on the middle of a lawn in the busy street and meditating. People crossing the lawn stopped by, to look at him with both wonder and disgust at the same time. Who in their proper sense would do this at a time like this? Newt has become the talk of the town amidst the chaos. Ronald, a passerby, crossed the fence guarding the lawn, to shake him to senses. Newt opened his eyes slowly and grinned widely at Ronald.

            The conversation between the two made Ronald to join with Newt for meditation. Upon seeing the two, a group started gathering around the lawn, and Ginerva pulled out the courage to shake both of them, but only to engage in a conversation with Ronald. After a couple of minutes, she too joined the meditation bunch. This continued for a while, and only after the shot of a pistol the meditation bunch and the crowd around the lawn retreated. The cops investigated Newt, about his meditation bunch amidst the chaos, for which he gave a single word. ‘US.’

             Live and let live has just become a dogma nowadays. We live in a globalized world where “Love conquers all” has changed to “Money conquers all.” Money now, not only buys commodities but people too. Money determines the value of a human being. The world hugely revolves around money now.

            The green oxygen suppliers are being destroyed in abundance to give life to certain non – living edifices. Their destruction is our development. The growth of major pollution causing industries has resulted in global warming and ozone layer depletion. Oceans and seas cry with the dumped plastics and oil spills floating on their surface. Fishes and other sea animals are missing from the food chain.

The crisis of poor people results ultimately in suicide. Every individual suffers in the hands of the government, be it either a poor man or woman. Men suffer economically while women suffer economically, socially and sexually. They take more than we can afford, and is never satisfied with what they get. Therefore, they demand more and more from the less and less. We pay our taxes for everything in spite of the pitiable treatment bestowed upon us. There are so many people whose livelihood is at stake, because their wealth is being corroded by the government.

Women, on the other hand, suffer both in the hands of the men and women. Until now, women do not get proper answer for their pleas and cries against molestation. We have child marriages, female foeticide, infanticide and many more prevailing in some parts of the world. Everyone has emotions and feelings. Everything must be respected. Self – respect gives self – confidence. 

            It’s high time that we stopped raising our voice against the evils prevailing in our society. It is the responsibility of every human to save nature and human beings as well. Human beings must never take nature for granted for we are the one who is going to suffer in the form of earthquakes, floods, avalanches, landslides and many more, which is evident now, for we are all going to die in a few hours. The crowd around Newt, realized the impact of money and selfishness upon humankind, and has started to talk again. They didn’t quarrel this time, rather started confessing their faults and wailing for their actions, which becomes unstoppable over time.

            To put an end to this, Newt informed the crowd through BBC (being a reporter there, it was easy for him to stage the chaos with the help of some local cops) that all the chaos was staged purposely to realize people’s mistake. He assured that no meteorite is coming and no volcano is erupting. This does not mean that the earth will not end today, but it will end one day. Until then, we should do everything keeping in mind that “We all are equal before Nature” for nature does not attack only the poor.

            Peace hovered around after Newt’s revelation and every household from then on, has a garden and some domestic animals.
